Smite: Bellona Guide – Builds, Tips and Tricks

God Introduction:

Bellona the Goddess of War is one of the most popular warriors in Smite and it’s for good reason. She has a low skill floor that is fun to use and a high skill ceiling to make her viable at the highest levels of play. Much of learning Bellona is knowing which stance to use at what time in order to make your opponent adapt to what you want to do.

Abilities:

  • Passive
  • Ability 1
  • Ability 2
  • Ability 3
  • Ultimate

Master of War

Upon giving or receiving hits from Basic Attacks, Bellona gains Protections and movement speed for 4s. (max. 5 stacks).”

  • Protections: 4 Protections per Stack
  • Movement Speed: +3% per Stack”

Shield Bash

Bellona dashes forward and bashes with her shield, dealing damage and Slowing enemies. Bellona gains 1 Stack of block for each enemy god hit. Block absorbs all damage from a single Basic Attack and reflects a portion of the damage around her. Bellona then makes Basic Attacks with sword and shield until she has not taken or dealt damage in the last 5s. Every 3 successful basic attacks she gains another Stack of block (max. 3).

  • Damage: 80/120/160/200/240 (+40% of your Physical Power)
  • Block Reflect: 30%
  • Slow: 15/20/25/30/35% for 2s

Bludgeon

Bellona summons a hammer and spins, hitting every enemy around her and then smashing forward in an overhand attack. Each enemy god hit in the spin increases the damage of the overhand attack. Bellona now makes Basic Attacks with her hammer until she has not taken or dealt damage in the last 5s. Every hammer attack hits all enemies in melee range and only benefit from 33% of Bellona’s total Lifesteal.

  • Spin Damage: 30/60/90/120/150 (+25% of your Physical Power)
  • Slam Damage: 70/130/190/250/310 (+60% of your Physical Power)
  • Slam Damage Increase: 25% per Enemy God hit

Scourge

Bellona summons a scourge, dealing damage to all enemies in a line. Enemies hit are Disarmed, and cannot make Basic Attacks. Bellona now makes Basic Attacks with a scourge until she has not taken or dealt damage in the last 5s. Basic Attacks have extended range (+4) and every third attack heals Bellona.

  • Damage: 80/115/150/185/220 (+50% of your Physical Power)
  • Disarm Duration: 1.4/1.6/1.8/2/2.2s
  • Healing: 30/35/40/45/50

Eagle’s Rally

Bellona plants a Roman flag, granting Protections and increased Physical Power to allied gods. Enemies directly under where the flag is placed take damage and are Stunned for 1s.

  • Damage: 100/200/300/400/500 (+50% of your Physical Power)
  • Protections: 15/20/25/30/35
  • Physical Power: 10/20/30/40/50
  • Flag Duration: 6/7/8/9/10

Lanes/Roles:

Solo:

Bellona is predominantly a solo laner and for good reason. Due to her bludgeon, she has one of the fastest wave clear times out of any player in the game since she can hit multiple targets at a time. During mid and late game Bellona becomes an auto attackers worst nightmare so focus on the enemy hunter or basic attack mage (i.e. Sol, Chronos) during team fights to shut them down. You can initiate with Eagle’s Rally or use scourge to disarm the enemy god while you close the gap with Shield Bash.

Gameplay:

Laning tips: Since the bludgeon ability allows her to hit multiple creeps at the same time, this allows her to quickly clear the wave. To group on the minions, you hit the enemy god on the bludgeon windup to take minion aggro and lead them toward the enemy archers. However, this tactic is predictable and there are many gods that can interrupt the bludgeon (i.e. Tyr’s fearless ability) so you’ll have to alter your playstyle accordingly.

For example if you find you’re getting interrupted during your bludgeon then it would be better to level up the Scourge ability as you can hit both the melee and archer creeps and it’s a quick cast. While boxing the enemy god in lane, take advantage of the passive movement speed she gets from basic attacks. Use your movement to weave in and out of basic attacks or use the movement speed to rotate to enemy camps, your own camps and possibly any fights on your side of the map.

Towards the later stages of the game, Bellona is great against auto attack gods as her shield bash ability reflects damage and scourge acts as a disarm.
